EDG employees helped to grade test papers at the regional MATHCOUNTS competition on February 7, 2009. Since two people are needed to grade each test, test graders are by far the most necessary volunteers. Several area engineering firms sponsor and/or volunteer for this event that encourages enthusiasm and achievement in middle school mathematics. One of our own project managers is a coach and a proud parent of a MATHCOUNTS student.
Some information about MATHCOUNTS:
The mission of the MATHCOUNTS Foundation is to increase enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States. The financial support and collaboration of corporations, professional associations and a growing volunteer force enable MATHCOUNTS to positively impact more than 500,000 students each year. MATHCOUNTS is teaching kids the language of the 21st century - Math. Students need to begin developing strong math skills in middle school. Failure to do so will put them at a competitive disadvantage in college. Strong math skills are necessary for a dramatically expanding number of careers. MATHCOUNTS is working to keep career choices wide open for students.
