Nineteen EDG Metairie employees set out on Saturday, April 25, 2009 to build a Habitat for Humanity home. The house was in need of outside siding, a front porch, shingles, and inside braces (or rat runs, as they were called on site) and EDG accomplished each task with style. We separated in teams for each project and worked all morning and well into the afternoon to complete a successful day of sawing, hammering, nailing, measuring, and eating (many thanks to Robin for donating the sandwiches and water!).
H4H is a not-for-profit organization devoted to building homes for the underprivileged. However, this program is not a giveaway program. In fact, Habitat for Humanity homeowners put hundreds of hours of their own time and sweat into building their Habitat Home and homes for others. This time spent is known as "sweat equity" around the Habitat Association. These homes are built according to the same guiding principle worldwide, which is simple, decent and affordable homes.
"Started in 1983, New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity has built hundreds of homes in the New Orleans area. With continued support we hope to build 100 homes annually." - Habitat for Humanity
